New beachfront homes
Black and white, 4:3 format
A row of building shells for new beachfront homes within a huge residential "complex" in the West of Mauritius.
As recent years have brought an explosive increase in immigration of white South Africans to this precious tropical island nation, architectural styles are changing accordingly: As the crime rate in Mauritius is actually extremely low, many experts say that living behind tall walls is rather a South African lifestyle than a security requirement.
For Mauritius, this actually means a cultural shock, as huge South African style complexes with tall concrete walls, electric fences and secured gates are replacing lone beaches and their natural surroundings.
The houses inside of these complexes are all exactly the same. There are walls of about 3-4 m in height plus approx. 1 m of a private "garden" around each of them. All you see from your "villa" are concrete walls. Painting yours in whatever color you like is strictly forbidden. 2-3 shades of beige are the usual South African color code.
